*Prices are for guiding services only and do not include accommodation, transportation, food, gear rentals, lift tickets or other fees.

*Rock and Ice climbing instructional days include free use of technical climbing gear.

Ski touring equipment, and splitboards can be rented at ROAM Shop. Split boards can also be rented at Valhalla Pure Outfitters. Both stores are located on Baker St. in downtown Nelson.

Accommodations

Transportation

Several options exist to reach Nelson, BC via car, bus or plane.

Driving From:
  • Spokane - Via Hwy #2 - 250km / 155mi, 3.5hrs
  • Calgary - Via Black Diamond, Fernie & the Crowsnest Hwy #3 - 615km, 7hrs.
  • Calgary - Via Hwy #1, Radium, Cranbrook - 630km, 6.75hrs.
  • Vancouver - Via the Crowsnest Hwy #3 - 650km, 7hrs.
  • Kelowna - Via Hwy #33 and the Crowsnest Hwy #3 - 345km, 4hrs.
 
Flying
  • Air Canada has several flights daily between Vancouver / Calgary and Castlegar* (a half hour drive from Nelson).  Queen City Shuttle offers inexpensive service between Castlegar and Nelson.
    *Note that in the winter there is a chance that flights may be cancelled due to poor visibility.
  • Pacific Coastal Air offers regular service from Vancouver to Trail, BC (50min. from Nelson).
  • The Canadian Rockies International Airport has service from Salt Lake, Calgary and Vancouver to Cranbrook which is a 2.5hr. drive to Nelson and on the Greyhound bus line.
  • Spokane has an international airport with rental cars and is a 3.5 hr. drive from Nelson.  Queen City Shuttle offer year round service between Spokane and Nelson.
  • Kelowna International airport is a 4 hr. drive from Nelson and on the Greyhound bus line.
 
Bus
  • Greyhound has daily buses to Nelson, originating in Vancouver and Calgary.

 

If you require transportation from Nelson to the trailhead and back the following rates apply:
$0.30 / km for paved roads, $0.40 / km for logging roads.
You may either provide transportation for the guide or pay the guide's mileage at the above rates.

Food

On multiday trips, food can be provided for $35 / person / day. Please indicate any food preferences.
On overnight trips $25 / day will be charged to cover the guide's meals ($35 if you choose the food option).

Payment & Cancellation Policy

  • Full payment is due at time of booking for trips & courses of 2 days duration or less.
  • For all other trips & courses a 50% deposit is required at time of booking to guarantee the trip/course dates.
  • Full payment is required 30 days in advance of the start date.
  • Cancellations made more than 30 days in advance of the start date are subject to a refund less a $100 CAD administrative fee.
  • Cancellations made 30 days or less in advance of the start date result in forfeiture of the entire amount paid.
  • Any fees paid to outside services (i.e. lodging, transportation, staff, food, porters, etc.) that is not refundable to Mountain Sense will be deducted from any refund eligible to you.
  • We strongly recommend purchasing Medical & Trip Cancellation Insurance from an outside insurer like www.travelguard.ca.
  • Payment in Canadian funds can be made by cash, cheque, money order, e-mail transfer (Canadian banks only), or Paypal (add 3%, or 4% outside Canada/US). Click here for a currency converter. 

Booking Conditions

Weather - In the event that weather or conditions do not allow for the original objectives, alternatives will be offered. When no other options are available, we will attempt to reschedule.

Fitness & Ability - Please communicate your personal fitness and experience levels as accurately as possible when booking your trip. The proposed objectives as well as the guide's decisions in the field will be based heavily on the abilities of the individuals involved.

No refunds will be given for objectives not achieved as a result of weather, conditions or guest abilities.

Waiver

A release and waiver of liability must be signed prior to participation in any of our courses or trips. You may view the waiver & medical form by clicking the appropriate link below.

 

Please print off the medical waiver and send the completed form back to us as a scanned e-mail attachment or via regular mail. Alternatively, notify us in advance of any important medical conditions and bring the form with you in person.

The waiver will be administered to you in person prior to your outing unless other arrangements have been made.
